The above graph is from my project page on Statcounter.com (Sorry, no link. While my project page works correctly, Statcounter's home page is seriously messed-up. Try entering "statcounter" into Google and see if they've fixed it.) It shows the countries visitors to this website have come from in the past thirty days. Statcounter offers a free website statistics tracking service which I use mostly out curiousity. Not only does it tell me the country and city a visitor came from, but how they found the site. The leading referer? A Google search for "Bikini Contest."
Not much else going on here. Another band of thunderstorms is making its way down from Mississipi and Alabama, so yard work is out of the question. But I still have my other chores to do, which I'm avoiding by updating this page. Maybe later I'll get back to work on my photo database project. I've written a short C++ program to convert the contents of a text file into a series of INSERT statements, now I just need to add some additional data conversion functionality to it and see if I can get MySQL to actuall run the resulting .sql script.
Moonrise, North Base, Edwards Air Force Base, California, USA

Hallelujah!
Several months ago, I thought I backed up most of my digital images to CD-ROM, but I discovered recently that a set of photos I took in the desert on Edwards Air Force Base, including photos of a weird aircraft graveyard on South Base, didn't make it onto a CD and had been deleted.
I was not happy with myself. But I thought it might be still be possible to salvage them from my laptop's harddrive. I found a program called File Scavenger 2.1 on Download.com. It was a "free to try" program, meaning you could download the trial version, run a scan of your harddrive, but any file larger than 65kb required a registered (i.e. paid-for) copy of the program. What the heck, I thought - let's scan the drive and see what's there. . .
Sure enough, I found copies of the deleted files. But to recover them, I had to pay $39.95 for a license. I was not hopeful but figured it was worth a try. Much to my delight, I was able to recover many (not all) of the photos I thought I had lost. The above photo of a moonrise over Edwards Air Force Base's super-secret North Base was one of them.
Was it worth the money? You bet it was. File Scavanger 2.1 is sold by Que Tek Consulting Corporation. You can download the free-to-try version here.
Grapefruit, Sun City, Arizona, USA

Well, I've been busy. At least that's my excuse.
Went to Fort Lee, between Hopewell and Petersburg, Virgina a couple of weeks ago to upgrade a customer's installation. Didn't get the chance to get out and look around, which was a shame because what little I did see looked very nice. The James River is nearby, as well as the town of Apamattox, where Lee surrendered to Grant to end the American Civil War. Wouldn't mind going back with a camera some time.
In the meantime, here's an image of a grapefruit I took in my parent's backyard at their home in Sun City, Arizona. I don't know if you're a fan of grapefruit, but I eat half of one everyday with breakfast and this time of year is best. They're ripe and juicy and as sweet as they get. Of course, my grapefruits come from Florida (or Texas when grapefruits are out of season), but they're all good.
Enjoy!

More lovely weather. Thunder, lightening, and heavy rain all through the night. It's almost pitch black outside right now. But the best is yet to come. Check out that band of red - it should be over Ft Walton in the next hour or so. . .
